I could just as well ask, is your hammer evil? Of course not. It is a tool. With that hammer you can build a treehouse. You can build a home for loved ones or a place of safety and acceptance for the homeless. With that hammer, you can find a path, connect with others, build skills, grow confidence, and become empowered. With that hammer you can create yourself and a life of meaning and purpose. And you can make this world a better place.
Or, you can leave the hammer to rust on the shelf.
Clearly, the power is not in the tool. It is in you. For better or for worse.
Hypnosis, too, is a tool. You use it to change negative, self-destructive thoughts into positive, life-affirming ones. With it, you retrain your mind to perceive the world, and your relationship to it, in healthier, happier, more productive ways. But hypnosis can take you further, if you wish. It can activate an experience quite similar to that of deep meditation. Ordinary consciousness is left behind and Love becomes the transcendent reality. Hypnotic trance can be a deeply spiritual state in which you recognize your existence within the heart of the Sacred and your connection with all that lives. In that sense, the hypnotic trance can be a tool for the mystical experience of the Absolute. It is about compassion.
